BARCS would like to thank our

June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month!
BARCS receives an abundant
number of
homeless kittens and cats each month. All of
these cuties are looking for a forever home and to
help in that quest, BARCS has designated June as
"Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month."
For the month of June,
kittens or cats are available for ONLY $30 or 2 for
$50! The public is invited to visit
BARCS, where cats and kittens of many breeds, sizes,
and ages are eager to meet you. You can also
view available adoptables online at
www.baltimoreanimalshelter.org.

King of the
World!
King is a recent recipient of funds from
the
Franky Fund, an account set up to
help support animals that are seriously
sick or injured and in need of critical
medical attention. King came to
BARCS because his former owners could no
longer care for him. Unfortunately
he was wounded and was not being
properly treated - the ligaments in both
his front paws were injured and he
needed urgent
surgery.
The
Franky Fund raised over $3,500 to
pay for King’s surgery and he is now
healing and looking for a new forever
home. At 2 years old and 46 lbs, King
is a tall, skinny guy with a goofy
personality and loads of charisma. This
King deserves the royal treatment! If
you are interested in adopting King,
please contact
BARCS.

King was helped by the Franky Fund
and now needs a new home. |
The Dog Days of Real Estate
|

 |
Today it seems everywhere we turn we see and
hear about the gloom and doom in the real
estate market and the growing number of
foreclosures. It’s so bad, even our beloved
pets are being affected. We are seeing
horrible pictures and reading tragic stories
about the people who are being foreclosed on
and the news is flooded with stories of
their pets - family members too - who are
being abandoned and left behind. It is
illegal to abandon an animal but it is
happening.
Shelters all across the country, including
BARCS, are seeing an increase in animal
surrenders that are being attributed to
“living situation.” As a pet lover, there
are several things you can do to help
animals or families in this situation:
- Adopt! Adopt an older pet that
may have been abandoned and is currently at
BARCS or recommend BARCS to a
friend who is looking for a new pet.
- Encourage
people to take their pet to a shelter or
rescue group rather than leaving it chained
in the yard or in the house they are losing.
- Help
provide a temporary home for an animal in
need by fostering.
- Donate
funds or items to BARCS.
Visit the
BARCS Wish List online – items
just sitting in your basement or garage can
help too.
- Volunteer
your time. Help photograph
adoptable pets, post ads online, answer
phones, or transport pets.
- If
you know of a pet owner who is losing their
home and needs help finding a pet friendly
place to live, contact a local Realtor who
does rentals. Not all Realtors do rentals
but they can always refer you to one who
does. A Realtor can search for specific
criteria and find places that will allow
pets or allow them on a case-by-case basis.
You can also go to
The Pet
Realty Network,™ which is
devoted to helping pet owners and their pets
by connecting Pet Friendly People to Pet
Friendly Real Estate.
