Paws to Consider Becoming a Foster Parent
BARCS is in dire need of foster families. The warmer months bring many litters
of kittens and puppies that aren’t quite ready for adoption and don’t thrive
well in a shelter environment. Besides puppies and kittens,
BARCS has several
injured or sick animals that need to be placed into foster families so they can
rest and heal in a comfortable setting.
Fostering pets is an alternative for people who can't make a long-term
commitment to a pet. Students who are home for the summer can foster kittens
and go back to college in the fall. Perhaps your landlord or lifestyle will
allow you to keep an animal for a short period of time – a perfect situation
for a foster pet. Fostering is also a great way for potential pet owners to see
if owning a dog or cat permanently is a good fit for them.
Fostering can be a
most gratifying experience and helps
BARCS by alleviating overcrowding at the
shelter and maximizing the number of animals who can be rescued. If you are
interested in fostering a pet, please email
Debby Rahl or call 410-396-4695.

Happy Tail!
BARCS often receives letters from people who have
adopted from our shelter. We love to hear
about BARCS alumni. If you have a "Happy Tail" to
share in our newsletter or online, please
send us a note along with a photo of your pet.
Below is a recent "Happy Tail" we received from
Terry Romanoli and her new friend Zaina.

Zaina says, "Thanks BARCS!"

Roxy and her new friend Zaina enjoy spending
time together. |
Dear BARCS,
I want to tell you what a happy ending it’s
been for Blossom (now Zaina, left top).
Never having owned a cat, I originally
adopted her for my rescued dog Roxy who
always had a playful fascination with cats.
I found myself at BARCS one cold morning in
December. This helpful volunteer introduced
me to a half-dozen cats in the play room.
One of them stole my heart! “What am I
doing?” I thought. “I never had a cat! What
do they eat? How do you clean them? What's
with the litter box?” BARCS staff gave me a
thorough lesson on cat care, a big bag of
kitty food and sent me on my way. It took
about 100 days for Roxy to accept the fact
that this cat wasn't going anywhere - but
now she and Zaina are life-long friends.
Little did I know that my new kitty had been
at BARCS “longer than any other cat." I
like to think that she was waiting for me.
People wonder how I got so lucky with not
one but two such sweet, laid back, friendly
pets. I say the answer's easy: Rescue them!
BARCS
is full of hidden treasures like the
one I found!
