Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to allow one more homeless dog to sleep in comfort, please donate a bed at our special wholesale price.

Welcome to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS), a non-profit organization created in July 2005 to work directly with Baltimore City Animal Control. We take in homeless and unwanted animals in Baltimore City. BARCS' mission is to prevent cruelty to animals by: rescuing animals, finding homes for the neglected and abandoned animals, promoting the health and welfare of animals through education, advocacy and pet population control and working cooperatively with other animal advocacy groups, shelters, and community organizations to continually improve the lives of animals.
Since its inception, BARCS has made many improvements to the shelter and its operations. Each of these improvements have been made with the animals best interest at heart. One of our most recent changes was creating a fund for the rehabilitation of sick and injured animals. This fund allows BARCS to work with local Veterinarians to treat adoptable homeless animals.
In hopes of getting more animals adopted, we recently changed our hours of operation to make the animals more accessible to the public.
BARCS takes in almost 12,000 animals a year and we need your help! Your assistance, whether through adoption, volunteering, or donation will greatly support us in our mission and help find homes for the thousands of animals we receive each year. As a community, we can make a difference in the lives of homeless and neglected animals.

Major Upcoming Events
Join local celebs and BARCS staff at the Mt. Washington Tavern this fall for a night of FUN and FUNdraising!
