Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to allow one more homeless dog to sleep in comfort, please donate a bed at our special wholesale price.
We are also in need of cat dens for our homeless cats! Please help us if you can.

Welcome to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS), a non-profit organization created in July 2005 to take over the operations of the city shelter and to work directly with Baltimore City Animal Control. We take in homeless and unwanted animals in Baltimore City. BARCS' mission is to provide sanctuary for all animals and to promote a more humane community.
Since its inception, BARCS has made many improvements to the shelter and its operations. Each of these improvements have been made with the animals best interest at heart. One of our most recent changes was creating a fund for the rehabilitation of sick and injured animals. This fund allows BARCS to work with local Veterinarians to treat adoptable homeless animals.
In hopes of getting more animals adopted, we recently changed our hours of operation to make the animals more accessible to the public.
BARCS takes in almost 12,000 animals a year and we need your help! Your assistance, whether through adoption, volunteering, or donation will greatly support us in our mission and help find homes for the thousands of animals we receive each year. As a community, we can make a difference in the lives of homeless and neglected animals.

Major Upcoming Events
Join us for drinks, hors d'oeuvres, silent auction and raffle while viewing some artwork! 100% of the proceeds benefits BARCS. The raffle is of a Dog Park print by Dana Morgan. In addition, 20% of all artwork sales goes to BARCS! A photographer will be there, so bring your well-behaved pets for a photo too.

BARCS is the second largest animal shelter in the State of Maryland, taking in over 40 animals every day. Please help us help them!
Order beautiful holiday poinsettias from BARCS to benefit the shelter’s Spay and Neuter program. Sign up for 12 or more and BARCS will deliver them to your home or office, just in time for the holidays.
Your purchase will help curtail the overpopulation of unwanted cats and dogs in Baltimore City. And the big, gorgeous red and white poinsettias are a true bargain – 25% off the florist's retail price! The poinsettias come in either a $15 Medium size (7" pot, standing 17" with 10-15 flowers) or a $30 Jumbo size (10" pot, standing 26" tall with over 20 flowers). Orders must be pre-paid by Friday, November 20th.
Plants can be picked up at BARCS on Wednesday, December 2nd from 9am to 7pm. Or, order 12 or more and they'll be delivered directly to your home or office on December 2nd. Now that's a Happy Holiday!
